BBA Business Continuity Conference: mixed feelings…

The British Bankers Association held its annual Business Continuity Conference at their offices in London yesterday. It was quite disappointing to see a much lower turnout this year than last. Perhaps the banks are still being cautious about spending money on trips out of the office, despite the positive noises the industry is making that things are ‘on-the-up’. read more

9/11: A day that will never be forgotten

Yesterday evening I finished watching the documentary which was aired on Channel 4 earlier in the week providing video footage of the unravelling events of the September the 11th bombings eight years ago. Swine Flu: The statistics

During my research into the swine flu pandemic which we are currently in, I have been bombarded with so many statistics on what might happen, the likelihood of this, that and the other, that I thought it would be useful to pull out the most popular statistics in a bid to make sense of what may actually occur in the coming months. Of course these are all predictions and should not be counted as fact, but at least they have some research behind them. Swine Flu: CIPD warn that up to half of working population could go off sick

The Chartered Institute for Personnel Development has reported that contrary to the Cabinet office’s prediction of a pandemic-related staff absence rate of 12 per cent, the figure is actually more likely to be around 50 per cent. According to the CIPD the 12 per cent figure does not take into consideration that schools could close, causing working parents to be absent to look after their children. (more…)

Fire: Rise in Arson Linked to Recession

The Association of British Insurers has reported that its members have stated a rise in the number of fires which are causing damage in excess of £500,000. There appears to be a link between the number of arson and fraudulent claims and the current economic situation. Residential claims have risen by 17 per cent over the last year and claims on commercial properties have risen by 15 per cent to £865 million according to the Association. (more…)
