The Civil Contingencies Conference 2010 will be held on Tuesday 26th January at the QEII Conference Centre in London, providing insight and information on resilience and business continuity planning.

Confirmed speakers include:

Huw Irranca-Davies MP, Minister for Marine and Natural Environment, Defra: Adapting Resilience Planning to Changing Threats

Lorraine Shepherd, Head of Resilience, Government Office for London: Delivering a Resilient Olympic and Paralmpic Games

Dr Nigel Brown, Director of Resilient Telecommunications Strategy, Cabinet Office: The Challenges to Telecommunication Resilience in Business Continuity Planning

One particular keynote session has caught my attention in light of recent flooding in the UK:

‘One year on from the government’s response to Sir Michael Pitt’s Review, Huw Irranca-Davies will discuss what has been achieved, with particular discussion of the draft Flood and Water Management bill. The centre-piece of this response, the bill promises to create a simpler and more effective means of managing the risk of flood and coastal erosion.’

A ‘Strategic Framework and Policy Statement on Improving the Resilience of Critical Infrastructure to Disruption from Natural Hazards’ document has been released for consultation to which GemaTech is responding by the deadline of the 18th January.

Business Continuity Planning is an on-going, ever adapting practice which needs input and influence from what is being generated by government departments and therefore all business continuity planners should attend. Do you agree?
