Paddington BT Exchange Fire and Flood: Kings College Hospital Uses GemaTech To Re-route Calls

Kings College Hospital, a GemaTech customer, is using a telecoms continuity plan because of major problems caused by the fire at a BT exchange in Paddington.

The fire at the Exchange in Paddington has caused chaos across the South East and other parts of the country as many businesses cannot make outbound or recieve inbound phone calls and data.

Kings College hospital have 4 BCMLITE units from GemaTech which instantaneously and seamlessly recover inbound calls and re-route them to alternative phones in alternative locations. Due to the way in which GemaTech have set up the telecoms continuity solution for Kings College Hospital (including circuits via COLT and ntl:Telewest), 3 of the 4 units are working to route calls and the 4th unit is re-routing calls to the other three units so that no incoming calls are lost.

It is unknown how long the BT exchange will take to be fixed and for services to return to normal. It is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault which in turn was caused by flooding.

When I know more, I will keep you updated…
